Programme Note
Lizzie Ball and James Pearson bring you the ultimate meeting of classical and jazz, in this anecdotally rich show exploring Gershwin's connections with his contemporary composers, taking you on a fascinating journey through the musical and personal encounters of some of the great musicians and composers of the 20th-century era, focusing on Gershwin as the central connecting figure.
Covering the artistic ‘scenes’ of Paris, London, and New York, the programme includes music and arrangements by Heifetz, Ravel, Kreisler, Gershwin, Bernstein, Britten, Copland, and Pearson. In addition they will explore how Gershwin’s legacy had a direct impact on both classical and jazz artists alike, including Stephane Grappelli and Yehudi Menuhin.
With an all-star line-up of double bass virtuoso and recording artist Misha Mullov-Abbado, and multi-genre drummer Matt Skelton, this will be a true representation of the 'jazz approach' to classical music, a hallmark of the much-loved Ronnie Scott's Classical All Stars performances Upstairs at Ronnie's.
