Add to my Calendar 25-07-2026 19:30 25-07-2026 21:30 36 Helix Ensemble in Bottesford Our next concert is in St Mary's Church, Bottesford on Saturday 25th July at 7.30pm.  Our Musical Director Alex Robinson is an experienced conductor and harpsichordist.  He is currently the music director of Haffner Orchestra, Furness Bach Choir, Amaretti Chamber Orchestra and Nottingham Youth Orchestra, and is the Artistic Director of Music for Everyone in Nottingham. Helix Ensemble is once again invited by The Friends of St Mary's, Bottesford and we hope to entertain you all with a wonderfully varied concert with a mix of popular and interesting works, some of which may be new to many of us.     Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin is one his most popular works; originally completed in 1917 as a piano suite in six movements, imitating the Baroque dance suite.  Ravel orchestrated four of the movements in 1919 - Prélude, Forlane, Menuet and Rigaudon.   Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves evokes serene, pastoral landscapes, timelessness and quiet mystery. Initially used in the third act of Vaughan Williams’ Shakespeare-inspired opera, Sir John in Love, the Fantasia includes “Lovely Joan,” another folk song the composer discovered in the region of Suffolk. Seascape is a lovely work by 20th Century British Composer Ruth Gipps, written for double wind quintet and inspired by a seaside visit to Kent.   The final piece, Haydn's Symphony No. 60 is a unique work originally written as incidental work to a comic play, and the music in six movements is full of surprises.     St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford DD/MM/YYYY
