Programme Note
The Tallis Choral Foundation return to the breathtaking surroundings of Tewkesbury Abbey for an atmospheric evening of candlelit choral music.
Spanning five centuries of British music, the programme journeys from the radiant polyphony of Tallis, Byrd and Parsons to the warmth and lyricism of Stanford, Holst, Harris and Rutter. Performed by a small, handpicked group of outstanding young singers, the concert celebrates the richness and enduring beauty of the British choral tradition in one of the country’s most awe-inspiring sacred spaces.
The second half opens with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ beloved The Lark Ascending in Paul Drayton’s acclaimed arrangement for violin and choir, performed by violinist Jenny Wells (scholarship holder at the Royal Academy of Music). alongside the choir. The programme culminates in William Harris’ magnificent double-choir anthem Faire Is the Heaven.
Performed by the Tallis Choral Foundation - a UK-registered charity (1214841) dedicated to supporting exceptional young singers at the beginning of their professional careers.
